Reggae Star Killed in South Africa Carjacking – New York Times

This story sounded familiar, after the shooting across from my school…my sympathies go out to his family, fans, and all the folks in South Africa who have to live with this level of violence on a daily basis.

Our local shooting has been solved, but the answer does not make it any easier. It appears it was case of mistaken identity, with a crime victim who had a minimal record (DUI), who thought the victim, Rodriguez, was the perpetrator, and decided to get ‘revenge’. So now two gainfully employed young men (the perpetrator worked as a receptionist in a dental office) are dead, or will be in prison for the rest of their natural life. This makes little sense to anyone outside the situation.

Speaking of South Africa, here is an interesting story. South Africa has a new national anthem. The kids learn it in school and can sing it, but most adults cannot sing the tune which blends five different languages. Does this bring any analogies to mind?
